The Gladiator

I grew up wondering,
what lay beyond that Iron Gate!
There was light beyond it...
sounds of applause and cheer;
there were yells of victory and thrill
Many men went past the Gate,
but came back a few.
It was my turn now,
to go beyond it,
to step into my fantasied world.
I was welcomed by a thunderous ovation,
the cheer and the sudden bright blinded me.
It was too late when i opened my eyes...
the Gate had sealed
and there was no going back now!
I finally saw that the world at this side
was not what i had dreamt of!!
I was sent here not to live...
but to fight and earn my survival!
I was not here a mere fighter...
but, was a Gladiator!!
The crowd had laughed at my fate,
cheered my death, applauded my pain!!
I was to entertain them with my blood!!!
They came to see me struggle, to see me die...
I fought the thirsty beasts
and the beastly men;
I fought with a dagger of determination
and an armour of confidence.
I ran out of breath and of faith;
I ran in vain, but had to fight;
I cried in pain, par all my might.
The crowd cheered and cheered more
with every wound and drop of blood.
I fall, but I rise;
I cry, but I smile;
I lose, but I fight.
I will fight and fight I will...
and humble that cruel Master.
I will show Him and this inhuman crowd,
I am a survivor... not just another Gladiator...
